The Milk it Story

Milk it was created by me, Mel 👋, a postpartum nutrition consultant, breastfeeding support counsellor, doula, perinatal yoga teacher, and mum of two who breastfed for over four years. And I believe we deserve a better kind of postpartum.

Why I started Milk it

I founded Milk it after two babies, not much of a village and the realisation of how little support truly centres the mother. Through my work with new mums, I was seeing too many families struggling with feeding issues, and getting conflicting advice, so I began baking as a simple act of care that opened up conversations about how mums were feeling. Breastfeeding can be intense and isolating, especially in the early days, and I wanted to do more to support.

Lactation challenges don’t end in the early days. Supply can fluctuate with stress, sleep deprivation, returning to work, or navigating separation from your baby. Milk it is here for all of it—from the first leaky feeds to the final bittersweet weaning days. And when hunger strikes (which it always does), Milk it offers nutrient-dense, one-handed convenience with no preservatives, seed oils, or additives.

Our Mission: Support for Breastfeeding Mums

Breastfeeding offers unparalleled health benefits for both babies and parents, yet the UK faces notoriously low breastfeeding rates. In the UK, 8 out of 10 women stop breastfeeding before they want to, due to pain, supply concerns, or lack of support. Our goal is to support women in reaching their breastfeeding goals—whatever that looks like for them. Whether you’re exclusively feeding at the breast, pumping, combination feeding, or figuring it out one feed at a time—you deserve to feel nourished, supported, and informed.

Every order comes with access to our expert-led resource page. Because while nourishment and hydration are a great place to start, optimal breastfeeding support is about positioning and attachment, knowing when to reach out to a certified lactation consultant, and simply having someone remind you that you're not alone in this. We’re embracing rest, support, and nourishment during the postpartum period (which spoiler alert, is way longer than 6 weeks). Bounce back? We don’t know her.
